Legal Experts to Al Sharq: Reporting Found and Abandoned Property Preserves Financial Rights
Lawyer Fouziya Saleh Al-Obaidly contributed to a report by Al Sharq newspaper on the draft law governing found and abandoned property.
Al-Obaidly affirmed that the draft law preserves people's financial rights, rooted in Islam's emphasis on the sanctity of property and the duty to protect it, noting that modernizing property-related legislation is part of societal development that must keep pace with change.
She explained that found property (luqata) is a chapter of Islamic jurisprudence — property separated from its owner — outlining the obligations religious rulings place on whoever finds it.
