Young Woman Saves Man from Fine After He Threatened to Publish Her Photos on Twitter
Al Sharq newspaper covered a cybercrime case in which a defendant had been fined one hundred thousand riyals at first instance, with his devices confiscated, over threatening a woman via Twitter.
Lawyer Fouziya Saleh Al-Obaidly represented the defendant before the Court of Appeal, submitting a legal memorandum supported by authorities and precedents seeking to overturn the first-instance judgment.
Al-Obaidly's pleas rested on a National Day pardon issued for the defendant, the victim's withdrawal of her complaint — extinguishing the criminal case — and the absence of the material element in the impersonation charges. The Court of Appeal ruled to acquit.
