Appeal Court Suspends Sentence of Employee Convicted of Forging a Phone Request Form

Al Sharq newspaper covered a criminal case in which the Court of Appeal ordered the suspension of a prison sentence against an employee convicted at first instance of forging a document (a phone request form) and sentenced to one year.

Lawyer Fouziya Saleh Al-Obaidly acted for the defendant, submitting a defense memorandum arguing that the company involved was not a purely governmental body and its employees did not hold public-official status — meaning the document at issue was a private, not official, instrument.

Al-Obaidly also argued that nearly ten years separated the incident from the trial, calling for the criminal case to lapse under the statute of limitations — and the court ruled to suspend the sentence.
