Qatari Women Lawyers Break the Male Monopoly

Lawyer Fouziya Saleh Al-Obaidly, admitted before the Court of Cassation, contributed to an extended report by Al Raya newspaper on the rise of Qatari women lawyers in a profession once monopolized by men.

Al-Obaidly noted that women lawyers handle around 70% of family cases, recalling her beginnings in the profession twenty years earlier, when only she and one colleague practiced, and how the scene has changed thanks to women lawyers' successes before the courts at first instance, appeal, and cassation.

She pointed out that the profession's challenges are shared by male and female lawyers alike, including the dispersal of court premises and difficulties in registering cases and obtaining copies of judgments.
