Fouziya Al-Obaidly: Joining the Police Was the Talk of Gatherings for a Long Time

On 25 September 2009, Al Raya newspaper published a feature by writer Abdulqader Madwi highlighting the biography of Reserve First Lieutenant Fouziya Saleh Al-Obaidly, the first female Qatari police officer.

She began her career on 31 March 1995 and retired with the rank of First Lieutenant on 1 April 1999. She studied at Qatar Secondary School for Girls, then worked at the Ministry of Education, and completed her university degree in law from Beirut Arab University while married and a mother of several children.

During her service she joined the police training institute and worked within the Public Prosecution, where she was responsible for investigating various cases involving female parties, as well as cases concerning marriage to foreigners.

She faced some social resistance early on, but handled it with wisdom and confidence, emphasizing that professional respect is built on competence and commitment. After retiring from the police, she turned to law and opened her own advocacy and legal consultation office in 2002.

She concluded with advice to young men and women to arm themselves with knowledge before considering work, and to commit to respect, patience, and cooperation.
